Ha'atafu Beach Resort is family operated and Tonga's only resort specialising in surfing holidays

Your hosts Steve and Sesika Burling established the resort in 1979 and have over 34 years experience in catering for surfers in Tonga. Steve's extensive knowledge of local breaks, conditions and weather patterns ensures that you'll always access the best surf available.

We are a guests only resort with limited occupancy
This guarantees a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere and allows a more personal, hands-on approach by staff and family. This also helps to keep the surfing friendly and uncrowded. Our philosophy has always been that; people come to Tonga to escape the "tourist traps" so we see absolutely no point in creating one here at Ha'atafu Beach.

Total number of guests we are able to accommodate is 24 in 10 traditionally thatched roof fales (bungalows)
With twin, triple and family fales available. The resort is ideal for individuals, couples or groups, and is one of the few "user friendly" destinations in the South Pacific for the "surfing family" with most surfspots either directly out front or within short walking distance.

Ha'atafu Beach Resort is located on the main island of Tongatapu
21km west of the capital Nuku'alofa on the Hihifo Peninsula. Ha'atafu Beach is not only home to some of Tonga's best surfing waves, it is also Tongatapu's premier recreational swimming and snorkelling beach. Ha'atafu Beach features safe all-tides swimming within the expansive lagoon area which also provides sanctuary to an astounding variety of tropical fish and corals. A true snorkellers wonderland.

The coastline here faces west-northwest Making the prevailing East-Southeast tradewinds directly offshore and is open to groundswells from winter storm activity in both hemispheres. This makes Ha'atafu unique in being one of the few surfing locations in the South Pacific to enjoy world class surfing conditions year round.
